Kyle Bledsoe

My name is Kyle Bledsoe, I am 27 years old. I am in the second year of a PhD program at the University of Mississippi’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. I was born in Detroit, MI – where my family is from. I was raised in Memphis, TN. I enjoy mountain biking, reading, hiking and gardening. I speak a moderate amount of Mandarin Chinese, and I hope to travel to China in the next five years to study traditional Chinese medicinal plants.

I have been involved in research at the university level since I was a sophomore in high school. I was, first, a student researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Kozma at the University of Memphis. That research would continue until after I graduated from High school. Then, in my second year at the University of Memphis, as an undergraduate, I would begin research in the laboratory of Dr. Kensha Clark. I would work with Dr. Clark, until the first semester of my second year as a PhD student; after which, I would join the group of Dr. Murrell Godfrey where I am now.

At current, I am involved in two research projects: one based on the study of sewage-based epidemiology and the other on antiepileptics. In the near future I will begin working on projects which involve the study of natural products, which is my ultimate career path goal.
